Redemption Point: A Crimson Lake Novel, Book 2

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Candice Fox delivers a compulsive new crime thriller in Redemption Point.

When former police detective Ted Conkaffey was wrongly accused of abducting Claire Bingley, he hoped the Queensland rain forest town of Crimson Lake would be a good place to disappear. But nowhere is safe from Claire's devastated father. Â

Dale Bingley has a brutal revenge plan all worked out - and if Ted doesn't help find the real abductor, he'll be its first casualty.  Â

Meanwhile, in a dark roadside hovel called the Barking Frog Inn, the bodies of two young bartenders lie on the beer-sodden floor. It's Detective Inspector Pip Sweeney's first homicide investigation - complicated by the arrival of Private Detective Amanda Pharrell to "assist" on the case. Amanda's conviction for murder a decade ago has left her with some odd behavioral traits, top-to-toe tattoos - and a keen eye for killers.....

For Ted and Amanda, the hunt for the truth will draw them into a violent dance with evil. Redemption is certainly in the cards - but it may well cost them their lives....

Fox never needed James Patterson to do-sponsor her but that's how I found her books. She is a superb writer who spins compelling yarn far better than Patterson ever did. This book was frantic and tragic with plenty of twists. I liked it better than the first because there wasn't anyone being stalked by crocodiles;-)

I love everything about candice fox books. She is a fantastic, interesting writer..and her plots are spot on. Would buy anything she would ever write...

Packed with surprises, twists and turns that keep you enthralled. A very suspenseful story involving characters both familiar (Crimson Lake) and new - some frightening and those familiar, some become endearing. It is my sincere wish for an ongoing series. I will be thinking of the main characters, looking forward to hearing more about them as I do Hades and Eve. Ms.Fox has a real talent for creating such complex characters, I admire her creativity. I am and will remain a devoted fan. Thank you for giving me many hours of great reading!

Great book. Tied everything up after the last book. But seemed real by not really giving everyone a happy ending.

I don’t typically read a lot of crime thrillers since sometimes the content can make me a bit squeamish, but when I read the excerpt for Redemption Point on Bookish First, I was immediately sucked in. I just had to keep reading to figure out what happened next.Redemption Point is the sequel to Candice Fox’s crime thriller Crimson Lake. In Redemption Point, we return to Crimson Lake where former police detective Ted Conkfaffey and his partner Amanda Pharrell are launched into the private investigation of a double murder at a bar outside of town.Ted still faces the repercussions associated with him being accused for the abduction and rape of 13-year-old Claire. Ted lost everything from his job to his family and friends, which is why he attempts to lead a life of isolation in a hideaway that he has constructed in the rainforest. Unfortunately for him, Claire’s father Dale tracks down Ted demanding revenge for his daughter. Ted is now on a race against time to find the true criminal or face the impending wrath that Dale has planned. The story is a page turner from start to finish. It’s full of non-stop, heart pumping action as we are faced with an enraged father looking for revenge as well as a double murder that desperately needs to be followed. As the plot moves forward, we start to learn of the diary that the actual pedophile kept, which is incredibly disturbing and yet enthralling. Additionally, I really enjoyed watching Ted and Amanda’s dynamic together because you have these two flawed characters that function so much better as a unit.Thank you to BookishHQ and Tor/Forge for the ARC. This did not influence my review. All opinions are my own.

Redemption Point is the second book in the Crimson Lake series and is told from multiple points of view as opposed to book 1 which gave us only Ted's view. We get to see the story from Ted, Amanda, and Sweeney and I enjoyed the way that Fox did that because each of them has their own personality.Amanda appears to not have a care, after murdering a girl in her past and having the secret finally come out, she's pretty easy going. She has a few quirks, such as rhyming, and saying whatever is on her mind, she makes for a really fun character. Ted is still trying to solve who really committed the abduction that landed him in prison for 8 months. He's a good balance to Amanda and they make a great team. Sweeney is the lead investigator on their newest case, and while all this is very new to her, she knows enough to lean on the people that can help her figure out what has happened.Fox knows how to tell a good story while keeping the reader guessing. While I had an idea of "who done it" and had several of my own suspects, the journey to get there was fun. We had a new character appear in Dale, the father of the victim that Ted was supposed to have been involved in. He's not a standout character, but he makes for a good thorn in Ted's side. Fox has also brought back Khalid, the gangster we met in book 1 who believes in Ted's innocence. I think having people believe in Ted made the story a little less stressful. Of course, the geese are ever present and I think they add a nice touch to round out the story. This is such a fun story, from the suspense aspect to the humor that Amanda adds, that it makes for a great read. I'm definitely looking forward to more from this great duo and to see who Fox will bring in next.

When I had only read one page of the book, I was unsure that I wanted to read a a book about a pedophile; however, I am glad that I continued. The subject matter is handled well and focuses on the adult characters and avoids unnecessary details about the young victim. It is easy to understand how Ted Conkaffey's life is ruined after he is accused of the evil behavior. His life as a father, husband, and a drug squad policeman are over, yet he has an unusual ally, another outcast - a young woman who was a murderer herself. There does not seem to be any way for Ted to clear his name, and so as might be expected, he relocates to a remote location and goes by the different last name of Collins. Equally understandable though is the desire for revenge on the part of the young victim's father, and this is where the author leads the reader on some unbelievable twists and turns that keeps the reader guessing with interspersed diary entries. The suspense never lets up. This book is actually the second one in a series, and although I received both books as ARC's, I happened to read 'Redemption Point' first. I was curious to see if the book would make sense as a stand-alone novel, and it definitely does. This is my honest review after reading the ARC.
